The Block Plant was started in June 1946 under the name of Builders Products, Inc. by George E. Kanta, George’s brother Joe Kanta and others in the old Yellowstone Garage Building.
After several years of very slow progress and uncertainties, the plant was taken over by George and Kathryn Kanta in 1952. The plant started out slow but grows over time.
George’s degree in Engineering from Montana Sate University and Kathryn’s keen eye for bookkeeping kept the plant going. Kathryn did all the books, managed the finances and bills. George made sure that the plant ran smooth by testing blocks for strength. Keeping up with new ideas, prices and etc. was a challenge, but George was always on top of things. Both Kathryn and George work hard to make this plant what it is today?
George’s brother, Tom, joined the firm in 1960, at which time the company name was changed to Kanta Products, Inc., with George as president, Tom, vice president and Kathryn as secretary-treasure. George’s son-in-law John Neuhaus joined the firm in 1983. Along with George and Kathryn, Tom and John have helped made Kanta Products, Inc. the corporation it has become today.
The plant has been growing steadily since 1970 and up to the present time with the manufacturing of more varieties of blocks, septic tanks and landscape products. This is all made possible by our faithful employees and loyal customers.
The present location (south edge of Three Forks) was purchased from Julius and Edith Olsen. An aggregate plant was built to expand shale to be used as a new aggregate for
the manufacturing of blocks. In 1970, a new automated block machine was put into operation, which enabled the Kantas to make blocks with greater efficiency and high-speed production. In 2003, a new hi speed production machine was purchased to replace the old machine to meet the demands. As of today Kanta Products employees over 20 people.
The market area for Kanta Products has increased to approximately 300 mile radius.
